Chapter 3 – Interaction with Teachers & Students
“Interaction with teachers & students” is very closely related to both topics presented above. It is both a precondition and a consequence of the development of the two areas mentioned above at the same time. Effective teaching and learning require the development of sincere positive relationships and interactions between teachers and students.
How does the tool measure the level of it?
The respondents are asked to indicate how much they agree with the following statements concerning her/his school
- All learners (including underrepresented learners) receive more individualised support from lecturers if they need it.
- There is a positive and open interaction between teachers and learners, inside and outside the class.
Experience shows that teachers’ attitudes to inclusive education for underrepresented students are clearly reflected in the quality of their relationships with students (including underrepresented ones). That is, teachers with a positive and loving attitude towards the inclusion of students with any learning difficulties had higher quality interactions with pupils. These teachers viewed themselves as responsible for the learning of all students and spent more time with them and used this time to ensure pupils’ full participation in the lesson. The positive interaction with all students not only provides a suitable learning environment for underrepresented students but also benefits all.v
