To apply the principles of this module, consider the following questions. By reflecting on these questions, you can refine your approach to learner support and foster an inclusive, engaging environment for all learners.
1. Understanding your role:
- How do I define my role as support staff for supporting learner engagement?
- What expectations do I believe learners have of me, and how am I meeting them?
2. Techniques & strategies:
- Which coaching techniques have I found to be most effective when working in the context of learner engagement?
- Are there any techniques I’ve tried that didn’t work as expected? Why might that be?
3. Feedback mechanisms:
- How often do I seek feedback from learners active in learner engagement about support offered to them?
- What changes have I made based on this feedback?
4. Fostering group dynamics:v
- How do I ensure that individual coaching and support complements group dynamics and peer learning?
- Are there opportunities I may be missing to encourage group interactions and shared learning?
5. Knowledge and networking:
- How familiar am I with the different structures, staff, and resources within the VET institution that can aid learner representatives and other learner engagement activities?
- How often do I engage with colleagues to discuss and refine our approaches to learner engagement?
6. Professional development:
- What areas do I believe I need further training or support in to better assist student representatives?
