Module 9 – Essential soft skills to support underrepresented students’ engagement

This micro-course will contain 4 modules:

1) Introduction to Active Listening,

2) Open-mindedness,

3) Critical Thinking

4) Integrating Active Listening, Open-mindedness, and Critical Thinking into Everyday Teaching Practice.

All modules will include a short theoretical introduction and exercises for you to complete in the form of reflection or a worksheet. The aim of this training will be to develop the aforementioned soft skills for promoting diversity both in VET learners and teachers.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • use various active listening techniques;
  • increase VET teachers’ and student support staff’s openness to diversity;
  • develop VET teachers’/student support staff’s skills in encouraging VET learners to ask questions that develop critical thinking, which will help avoid addressing negative judgments and stereotypes to people from disadvantaged groups.
