Chapter 3 – Follow-up Their Recommendations
Engaging in the learner-led review process means giving a voice to your learners, but it also means taking their recommendations into account in concrete terms. Particular action must be exercised in the follow-up phase while analysing the recommendations proposed by learners.
One of the pitfalls to avoid is “not following” up on learners’ recommendations. You can roll out the learner-led review over several years and bring different participants from each year together; if their experience is not good, the following learners will be less inclined to get involved.
To avoid this, you can:
- Respond to each recommendation by explaining the reasons: those recommendations that will be implemented in your institution and those that cannot be implemented. It is necessary to present transparently the actions that you will take following the learners’ recommendations (in particular, by putting people in touch with different staff members in the establishment).
- Promote learner engagement: you can issue a certificate of participation and provide (awards, internal communication, etc.).
