Chapter 2 – Implement/Animate the Review Process Led by Learners
The animation and organisation of the learner-led review must be prepared in consultation with the learners who participate in it. You can refer to the Learner-led Review manual and its related Annexes to organise the process.
For an effective learner-led review, here are the key elements:
1. Identify a learner-support staff/facilitator who will be the main contact for the learners throughout the process.
2. Organise an initial meeting with the learners in order to create the group dynamics and to give information about the context and expectations from this review.
It is important to set objectives for the learner-led review from the very beginning. For example: the number of recommendations expected from learner-reviewers.
3. One of the challenges for the review process is to succeed in creating group dynamics and ensuring that learners are involved in the process.
To enhance learner engagement, it may be useful to provide the necessary materials for review to run smoothly. Therefore, learners can work easily with different materials at their disposal (flip chart, whiteboard, etc.) during meetings.
Similarly, if you have a budget to carry out the learner-led review, you can provide a welcome kit to your learners (notebook, pen, goodies from your institution) and you can also provide some drinks and cakes for the meetings. The aim is to welcome the learners as best as possible.
These different actions will help create a long-lasting link with learners while leaving them in the form of independence.
