Module 14 – Data-driven Institutional Evaluations

Data-driven institutional evaluation is an approach that utilises data to guide institutions’ decisions. It involves assessing an institution’s performance and effectiveness through data-informed decision-making. This process includes collecting, analysing, and interpreting various types of data to gain insights into the institution’s strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. By implementing data-driven instruction, schools can enhance learner outcomes and establish a common language for school leaders and educators to communicate learning goals effectively. In VET settings, where diverse learner backgrounds bring unique challenges, data-driven evaluations help ensure that all learners feel supported and engaged. Data-driven evaluations are not just about gathering information; they are also about interpreting data meaningfully to inform policies, teaching methods, and resource allocations. This approach allows institutions to assess the impact of their inclusivity initiatives and adapt them based on real evidence, promoting a culture of continuous improvement. While data-driven institutional evaluation offers numerous benefits, it also poses challenges that must be addressed. In this micromodule, you will learn about the methodological approaches to data collection. You will explore various qualitative and quantitative methods and discover which ones are most suitable for your institution.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • describe qualitative and quantitative data collection methods and their appropriate applications
  • understanding the importance of data-driven evaluations, helping participants appreciate how data can uncover hidden barriers, highlight inclusivity gaps, and measure the effectiveness of interventions
  • define data-driven institutional evaluation and its purpose
  • ability to identify the various types of data that can be used in institutional evaluations
